Mitsubishi B-97 Darai ("Doris")

Widely described early in the war, and included in the first Allied code list, the Darai is a complete mystery. Nothing like it was ever produced or imported by Japan. It bears a remarkable resemblance to the American Bennet BTC-1 that was described in a 1940 Japanese magazine. Poor translation of this magazine may have resulted in it being identified as a Japanese aircraft. It was assigned the codename "Doris" by the Allies.
