UNEQUALED TOKEN TO DEPARTING NAD COMMANDER
GOVERNOR PROCLAIMS "CAPTAIN HANSON DAY"
    GOVERNOR DEWEY BARTLETT HAS  PROCLAIMED  MONDAY, 23 FEB 1970 AS "CAPTAIN
RALPH M HANSON DAY" IN HONOR OF THE DEPARTING DEPOT COMMANDER'S SUPPORT AND
PERSONAL LEADERSHIP FOR CIVIC AND CHARITABLE PROGRAMS IN THIS PART OF THE
STATE.
    OFFICIALS OF THE NAVY LEAGUE WILL PRESENT THE PROCLAMATION TO CAPTAIN
HANSON AT A NAVY LEAGUE RECEPTION AND DINNER MONDAY NIGHT AT PETE'S PLACE.
IT IS NOTED THAT THE CAPTAIN IS A DIRECTOR OF THE MCALESTER BOY'S CLUB, THE
BOY SCOUTS, THE GIRL'S CLUB AND THE SALVATION ARMY.
    CAPTAIN HANSON INITIATED THE FIRST FEDERAL UNITED CAMPAIGN AT THE 
DEPOT. THE BASE HAS LENT ITS SUPPORT TO MANY DRIVES AND ACTIVITIES DURING 
HIS TOUR HERE.
    THEY INCLUDE A CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR SOME 75 UNDERPRIVILEGED
CHILDREN; A TOY REPAIR PROJECT BY THE DEPOT FIRE DEPARTMENT, FOR THE 
SALVATION ARMY; A HIRE-THE-HANDICAPPED PROGRAM; A PROGRAM FOR THE HIRING 
OF THE HANDICAPPED; A PROGRAM FOR THE HIRING OF THE MENTALLY RETARDED; A 
SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM, WHICH EMPLOYED 415 YOUNG PEOPLE LAST SUMMER; 
ACTIVITIES IN CONNECTION WITH THE DEPOT'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY TWO YEARS AGO; 
BRINGING THE NAVY SHOW BAND AND THE NAVY STEEL BAND TO MCALESTER; 
LEADERSHIP OF THE U.S. SAVINGS BOND PROGRAM AND THE EQUAL OPPORTUNITY 
PROGRAM.
    THE CIVIL DEFENSE OFFICE HAS BEEN SUPPORTED STRONGLY BY THE DEPOT, AS 
HAVE THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN AREA TOWNS. THE DEPOT'S CONSERVATION AND 
WILDLIFE PROGRAM HAS RE-STOCKED MUCH OF THE STATE WITH DEER.
    A "CIVIL GUARD" HAS BEEN FORMED, FULLY UNIFORMED AND FULLY TRAINED IN 
MILITARY POLICE TRAINING, IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. THIS IS MADE UP OF CIVILIAN 
VOLUNTEERS AT THE DEPOT.
    OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION COURSES AND COURSES FROM
SOUTHEASTERN STATE AT DURANT HAVE BEEN OFFERED AT THE DEPOT, AND CAPTAIN
HANSON HAS WORKED WITH COUNTY VO-TECH OFFICIALS IN WORKING THE PROGRAMS
WHICH WOULD TRAIN PERSONS FOR JOBS AT THE DEPOT. THE CAPTAIN IS A MEMBER OF
THE MCALESTER ROTARY CLUB AND THE ELKS CLUB.
